What can we say about Pete's? It's situated at the corner of Jane & Annette in the Babypoint area of town. This is pretty much the place that started it all, and of every breakfast joint in town, mine and Tomas' most regular spot. It looks straight out of the 70's and we like it that way. The tables and chairs are a bright orange, and the atmosphere is an erroneous mish-mash of styles, the walls adorned with everything from a signed Bobby Orr photo to a Russian language map of Europe to a Garfield poster stating "I need less week and more weekend." It's comfy, it's casual and it always feels like home.

BREAKFAST SPECIAL:
3 eggs
bacon, ham or sausage
homefries
toast
coffee
$5,25+tx.

THE FOOD: A standard diner fare with nothing out of the ordinary persay. The catch is the simplicity and consistancy. It tastes great everytime, plain and simple.

THE PRICE: Once again, fairly standard and what you'd expect to pay at any greasy spoon. For an even $6 after tax you should be more than satisfied.

THE SERVICE: The sole server (of who's name we're still unsure of) makes you feel at home every time and I would even go as far as saying she makes you feel practically related. On top of that she's got a great memory and you don't really have to say much of anything to get what you want after a few goes. She's like you're buddies cool mom who makes you food, but also goes out of her way burn you in the process...plus she calls you things like "hun" and "babe", which I find particularly abating.

THE AMBIANCE: It can be a little bright at times, depending on the degree of alcohol consumption the prior evening, but that's my only vice. From the open-kitchen to the fact that it hasn't been updated in 30 years, it makes you feel at ease. There's always good vibes and everybody seem's to be joking around. Customer (to server): "You're using my broom!" Server (to customer): "Big Deal! Ride it!"

All in all, "Let's head to Pete's" is an extremely common phrase around our place when it comes to breakfast. Pete's is choice and I would highly recommend giving it a go if you find yourself on the west end.
